Accounts & sync

Do I need an account?

No. Heart works fully signed out — your workouts, templates, custom exercises and goals live on the phone and nowhere else. The honest trade is this: without an account there is no backup, so if you lose the phone, you lose the data. Logging in later brings everything with it.

I signed in — what happened to what I'd already logged?

It goes up to the account: exercises, unit preferences, folders, templates, workouts and goals, in that order, with a progress line at the top of the app while it runs. Signing in to an account that already has history merges — anything already up there is kept, never overwritten, and nothing is duplicated.

Why are my charts missing older workouts?

Because they haven't come down yet. After a fresh sign-in — or on a new phone — Heart downloads your history in the background and shows Restoring your history… while it does. Give it a few minutes on a decent connection; charts and records fill in as it goes.

Health data

Heart isn't showing my health data

This is the common one, and the app genuinely cannot diagnose it for you: iOS never tells an app whether read permission was granted, so as far as Heart can see, "you said no" and "there are no readings" look identical. Check it yourself, in the OS:

iPhone
Open the Health app, tap your profile picture, then Apps → Heart, and turn on the categories you want it to read.
Android
Permissions live in Health Connect. Grant the metrics there — and grant access to past data too. That one is a separate permission, and without it Health Connect caps every read at the last 30 days, so your charts just stop.

Settings → Health in the app takes you straight there.

Does my health data leave my phone?

No. What Heart reads from Apple Health or Health Connect stays on the device — it is not uploaded to our servers, not in analytics, not in crash reports, and not shared with anyone. There is no health data in your export or in your account, because there is none to have. The Health section of the privacy policy spells out exactly what is read and where it goes.

How do I stop Heart writing workouts to Health?

Settings → Health → Save workouts to Health. It shows whether it's on and takes you to your phone's health permissions, since turning a write permission off is the platform's to offer. Off means Heart writes nothing at all. The same screen has Delete health data, which clears Heart's own copy and leaves your phone's health records untouched.

Your data

How do I export or erase my data?

Settings → Export my data writes a file through the share sheet — JSON in Heart's own format, or CSV with one row per set for a spreadsheet. It reads the phone, so it works with no account and no network, and it never includes health data.

To get rid of it: signed out, Settings → Erase my data wipes the device clean — and with no account behind it, that cannot be undone. With an account, use Settings → Account control → Delete account; deletion is scheduled 30 days out, and signing in before then cancels it. After that it's permanent. More on deleting your account.

Can I bring my history from another app?

Often, yes. Open Settings → Import workout history — it tells you which apps Heart can read an export from, and where to find that export in each. Save the file, pick it there, and you'll get a preview before anything is written; exercises that don't match the library come over as your own custom ones. Importing the same file twice is safe: what's already there is skipped, never duplicated. Importing needs an account, since that's where the history lands. Coming from Strong? There's a step-by-step guide, next to a side-by-side of the two apps.

Bugs & releases

How do I report a bug?

From inside the app, if you can: Settings → Leave feedback lets you grab a screenshot, scribble on it and send a note. That beats an email, because it carries the context we'd otherwise have to ask you for. Health values and their charts are blacked out before the screenshot is taken. It needs an account to send; signed out, write to info@heart-of.me instead.

Is it fixed yet?

Every release is written up publicly, so you can check without asking us — see the release notes. If the fix is in a version newer than yours, update from the App Store or Play Store.
